Hwy 59 Crash Claims Worthington Man

(Worthington, Mn.)– A two-vehicle crash Friday evening on Highway 59 near Worthington claimed the life of a Worthington man.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 24-year-old Pakhorng Thammavongsa of Worthington was westbound on Nobles County Road 14 and was turning onto Highway 59 when he turned into the path of a vehicle driven by 69-year-old Stanley Benson of Stillwater Oklahoma who was northbound on Highway 59.

Pakhorng was pronounced dead at the scene; two passengers in the vehicle he was driving were injured. They’re identified as 23-year-old Jack Sysavath of Jackson and 25-year-old Harry Insixiengmay of Worthington. Sysavath was taken to the Worthington hospital; Insixiengmay was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls; Benson was taken to the Worthington hospital. All sustained non-incapacitating injuries.

A 1993 Acura Integra driven by Thammavongsa and a 2004 Mitsubishi driven by Benson were both totaled.

The collision took place shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office.
