Dickinson County Water Quality Commission Awards Grants

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission has awarded grants to three projects for the upcoming fiscal year.

They include a drainage reconstruction project in the East Okoboji Beach area; another will oversee implementation of a cleanwater assessment for the Iowa Great Lakes; and the third is for the Iowa Great Lakes Watershed Protection Project to protect priority wetland areas within the watersheds of Dickinson county lakes.

The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission awards up to 200-thousand dollars annually for water quality improvement projects. This year they received six applications requesting 260-thousand dollars.

Over the last eight years the commission has approved 1.2 million dollars in local funds for water quality projects that have generated nearly 9.6 million dollars in matching funds from various state and federal entities.
