(Jackson, Mn.)– While voters in Iowa head to the polls this coming Tuesday to vote in municipal elections, some Minnesota voters will decide the fate of school operating referendums.
Residents in the Jackson County Central School District will be among them. The district is asking for 949-dollars per pupil unit for 10 years, which would raise the district’s operating levy to one thousand dollars in 2008.
The Windom district is asking for 915 dollars for seven years, which would raise its levy to 1,330-dollars.
The districts contend that a one percent increase in levies approved by the state for the 2008 fiscal year won’t be enough to meet inflation. They say they’ll be forced to make massive budget cuts if residents reject Tuesday’s referendums.
