(Lakefield, Mn.)– No injuries were reported this (Thursday) afternoon in a vehicle fire that quickly spread into a grassy area south of Lakefield, Minnesota.
Pat Daly of the Spirit Lake Fire Department says firefighters were called to the scene on Highway 86 about a mile north of Jackson County Road Four around 12:15 p.m. Upon arriving Daly says firefighters found a newer pickup totally engulfed in flames. Daly says the driver managed to get out unharmed.
He says the fire quickly spread across the road and started some state-owned grassland on fire. Daly estimates about 20 acres of land burned before it could be put out.
Daly says what caused the pickup to catch fire isn’t known. He says it was totally destroyed by the blaze.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Lakefield Fire Department.
Firefighters were on the scene nearly two hours.
