(Spencer)– A single-vehicle rollover Thursday in southwestern Clay county sent two people to the hospital–one with serious injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Brittany Roberts of Sheldon was northbound on 170th Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control. The vehicle went into the west ditch, hit a stop ahead sign and continued in the ditch. It rolled twice, went over a barbed wire fence and came to rest on its wheels in a plowed field.
Roberts and a passenger, 22-year-old Elaine Stanley of Linn Grove, were taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. Roberts was treated for minor injuries; Stanley was life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious injuries.
A 1992 Mercury Topaz Roberts was driving was totaled.
The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and that charges are pending the outcome of test results from the Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Peterson Fire and Rescue, Royal Fire and Rescue and Spencer Hospital Ambulance.
