Dickinson Co. P & Z To Consider Adopting LID Requirements

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some tougher requirements designed to meet low impact development standards could be in the offing for Dickinson county’s zoning ordinance.

The county’s Planning and Zoning Commission December 17th will consider adding a definition that would define low impact development.

The commission will act on the proposal after hearing from Wayne Petersen of the Natural Resource Conservation Service, who’s scheduled to be on hand at the session. Petersen is an expert on low impact development.

The cities of Spirit Lake and Okoboji recently revised their zoning ordinances to include low impact development requirements; the cities of Wahpeton, Orleans and West Okoboji are considering it.

The December 17th meeting begins at 1:00 p.m. It’s tentatively scheduled to be held in the conference room of the Zoning/Engineer’s building just west of the courthouse in Spirit Lake.
