(Spencer)– The search for a missing Spencer man has ended on a tragic note.
Spencer Police Chief Mark Lawson says the body of 85-year-old Carl Winterboer was found in a field just east of Spencer. Lawson says Winterboer’s body was about 250 yards east of a vehicle he had been driving, which had become stuck in the same field.
Lawson says the vehicle couldn’t be seen from a nearby road due to some railroad cars and outbuildings.
An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death, but Lawson says foul play is NOT suspected.
Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Fire Department, Clay County Conservation and Clay County Homeland Security.
Winterboer had been missing since Monday.
