(Spencer)– A fire early this (Thursday) morning at the Eaton Corporation plant in Spencer destroyed an exhaust fan but resulted in no other damage.
Spencer firefighters were called to the plant around 3:00 a.m. after employees reported a fire in the plant’s heat-treat area on the west side of the building.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Spencer Fire Chief Doug Duncan says the fire occurred when some oil residue and dust ignited in a ventilation duct below an exhaust fan in the roof. He says firefighters had to work from the interior of the plant and from the roof of the building to take care of the problem.
The Fostoria Fire Department assisted on the scene, along with Eaton plant response personnel, the Spencer Ambulance, Spencer Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
A damage estimate to the fan wasn’t immediately available.
No injuries were reported.
