(Arnolds Park)– It’s official: the Iowa Great Lakes are officially frozen over for the season.
That word today (Wednesday) from Kirk Ewen of Arnolds Park, who keeps track of the official freeze-thaw dates each year.
Ewen tells KUOO news East Lake Okoboji offcially froze over November 30th, while West Lake Okoboji was completely frozen over as of this (Wednesday) morning.
While those dates are pretty much on target with traditional averages, they are earlier than last year when East Lake Okoboji froze over December 1st and West Lake Okoboji didn’t freeze over completely until January 13th.
