(Spirit Lake)– Members of the West Lake Okoboji Harbor Association were at Monday’s meeting of the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission requesting an “overlay district” be put in place in their area.
An attorney representing the association told the commission covenants on the subdivision expired on a technical error. He said most residents of the harbor want the covenants continued to protect the integrity of the subdivision.
Having the overlay district in place means the county would be responsible for making sure the covenants are followed.
That caused concern from some commissioners, including Tim Fairchild. He questioned whether the county should be involved in that and if it would set a precedence.
After further discussion, a motion was made and unanimously approved to bring the matter to a public hearing at the commission’s next meeting after the first of the year.
