(Superior)– A collision involving a pickup and a semi Thursday at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 west of Superior, or the Jackson “Y”, injured an Estherville man.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Shaun Bugaj of Hermitage, Tennessee was driving a 2004 Volvo semi tractor/trailer southbound on Highway 71 when he failed to stop for a stop sign at Highway nine. Authorities say he traveled into the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Gary Haney of Estherville who was eastbound on Highway nine.
Haney was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville with non-incapacitating injuries.
No injuries were reported to Bugaj, who was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.
10-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Haney; a 2004 Volvo semi tractor/trailer driven by Bugaj sustained an estimated 20-thousand dollars in damage.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Lakes Regional Healthcare amublance, Superior Fire and Rescue, Spirit Lake Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
