SL Council Adopts ATV Ordinance

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– It will soon become legal to operate all-terrain-vehicles on city streets in Spirit Lake.

Meeting in special session Friday, the city council held a third reading and adopted an ordinance to that affect.

It goes into affect upon publication, which is expected to happen in the next one to two weeks.

The ordinance makes it legal to operate ATV’s and what’s known as UTV’s on city streets in Spirit Lake between December 1st and March 31st. The ordinance could be revised later to make it year-round if there are no problems.

In other business, the council set January 8th as the date for a public hearing on a proposal to convey some city-owned property at 2302 Hill Avenue to the Lakes Community Land Trust. The council scheduled the public hearing pursuant to a change in language in an agreement with the trust that would give the city final say over the trust’s plans to build in that area.
