Vehicle Collides With Building

November 22, 2014

(Orleans)– No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle collision Thursday in Orleans that resulted in one of the vehicles being pushed into a building.

Spirit Lake police say Jason Carney of Spirit Lake was eastbound on First Street and Joe Vanderlaan of Spirit Lake was northbound on Sunrise Drive when the two collided. The vehicle Carney was driving then struck a parked, unattended vehicle owned by Andrew Gigstad of Spirit Lake, pushing that vehicle into a shop building at 13868 Sunrise Drive. No one was in the building at the time.

Four thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2006 Ford truck driven by Carney and owned by Carney Concrete; a 2001 Ford truck driven by Vanderlaan and owned by JVL Corporation sustained an estimated 3,500-dollars in damage. Damage to a 1991 Dodge owned by Gigstad was estimated at 750-dollars. The building, owned by Carney Concrete, sustained an estimated 500-dollars in damage.

Carney was cited for failure to yield.

The mishap took place shortly before 10:30 a.m.
