Juveniles Accused Of Stealing Trucks In Lyon & Osceola Counties

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– Charges have been filed against two juveniles accused of stealing trucks from several locations in Lyon and Osceola counties.

Authorities say the two juveniles from Minnesota allegedly took a vehicle from Canton, South Dakota, then left it in Rock Rapids before taking another vehicle. An Osceola County sheriff’s deputy later spotted the juveniles in the stolen truck in Ashton. Once spotted by the deputy, the two fled the vehicle and went into a field. Authorities say the juveniles managed to get away and took off with another vehicle taken from a rural Ashton residence. That vehicle eventually went into the ditch.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was contacted a short while later by an employee of Sibley Super Foods about two juvenile males asking for a ride to Spirit Lake. Deputies responded and took the two into custody.

With assistance from one of the juveniles, the pickup that had been stolen from the rural Ashton residence was located on Sorrell Avenue south of Highway Nine.

No damage was reported to any of the vehicles.

The two juveniles, who’s names weren’t released, were charged with operating without the owner’s consent…an aggravated misdemeanor. They were released to the custody of their parents.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
