(Spirit Lake)– A two-vehicle crash Monday night just north of the intersection of Highway 71 and 41st Street in Spirit Lake sent one person to the hospital and resulted in charges against one of the drivers.
The Spirit Lake Police Department says 46-year-old William Smith of Milford was northbound on Highway 71 when he lost control. The 1999 Land Rover S-U-V he was driving crossed the median and went into the opposite lane where it collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by 53-year-old Patricia Norton of Milford.
Norton was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Smith refused treatment and wasn’t transported.
Smith was charged with operating while intoxicated…third offense; driving while barred and for having no S-R insurance.
Eight thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Smith and to a 2004 Chrysler Sebring driven by Norton.
The collision took place shortly before 10:30 p.m.
The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments and the Spirit Lake Fire Department.
