Altercation Injures Two Men; Lands Two Others In Jail

November 22, 2014

(Graettinger)– An incident early Sunday at a Graettinger bar landed two men in the hospital with severe cuts and two others in jail.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday to the Side Street Saloon in Graettinger after getting a report of an assault that had taken place outside of the establishment.

Upon arriving deputies found 47-year-old Monty Schany and 29-year-old Travis Schany…both of Graettinger…had both been severely cut with a knife during an altercation. Both men were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg and were later transferred to the Spencer hospital. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

During their investigation, deputies discovered an abandoned van at 402 South Washington in Graettinger, which led them to 402 South Wilson Street. While at that residence authorities detained and later arrested 25-year-old Matthew Davis and 42-year-old Theodore Hampson, both of Graettinger. Both men were charged with willful injury with a weapon…a class “C” felony. They were transported to the Palo Alto county jail where they were waiting to make an initial appearance before a judge.

Authorities say additional charges are pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
