(Ruthven)– A citizen’s tip to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in felony theft charges against a Spencer man.
Authorities say it stems from February 4th when Spencer police took a report of four rims and tires that had been stolen in north Spencer with an approximate value of 2,800-dollars.
Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a tip stating that a red Chevrolet pickup with the stolen rims was parked in Ruthven.
The Clay and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Offices conducted a joint investigation that took them to Murph’s Garage in Ruthven. The investigation revealed that a pickup parked at the business belonged to 27-year-old Teddy Hoffmeyer of Spencer. Authorities say Hoffmeyer was working at the Ruthven Cooperative Elevator where he was located. Following a brief interview, Hoffmeyer was placed under arrest. He was charged with theft in the second degree…a class “D” felony and was booked into the Clay county jail.
