(Spencer)– Two local housing projects have been awarded funding through the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.
The Iowa Finance Authority announced Wednesday projects on North State in Emmetsburg and East 19th Street in Spencer have been awarded slightly more than 2.4 million dollars. The rehabilitation projects will provide 84 units of housing for families. The National Affordable Housing Foundation is heading up the combined projects.
A project to rennovate the former Spencer Middle School into 16 units of housing was awarded 2.2 million. That project is being developed by Community Housing Initiatives of Spencer.
More than 60 million dollars in funds were approved statewide through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program that will allow the creation of 768 units of affordable housing in 15 communities around the state.
