(Lakefield, Mn.)– Jackson county authorities now say a man who was stabbed Thursday at a Lakefield nursing home died of his injuries. A suspect, the victim’s brother, has been charged with murder.
The victim is identified as 37-year-old Kenneth Collins, Jr. of Fulda, who worked at Colonial Manor. He was transported by ambulance to Sanford Jackson Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities say the suspect, 38-year-old Tyron Collins of Jackson, fled the scene following the incident. He was apprehended following a high speed chase that ended after he crashed the vehicle he was driving on a service road after crossing Highways 59 and 60 in Worthington.
Tyron Collins was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington where he was treated for injuries he sustained in the crash. He was then arrested on a second degree murder charge and was booked into the Jackson county jail.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Lakefield Police Department were assisted by the Jackson and Worthington Police Departments, the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Authorities were called to the nursing home around 2:15 p.m. Thursday after getting a 911 call about the incident from nursing home staff.
Authorities say no other staff members or residents at Colonial Manor were injured or threatened. The facility was locked down for awhile immediately following the incident as a precaution.
