(Estherville)—Charges have been filed against a woman accused of writing bad checks in the Estherville area. Another woman faces drug charges in connection with same investigation.
Estherville police say Laura Wirth, also known as Laura Jones, was wanted for allegedly writing checks to several businesses in the Estherville area on accounts that were closed.
Wirth was arrested and charged with interference with official acts and two counts of identity theft. She was also wanted on a probation violation out of Nebraska.
Wirth was booked into jail on bond of 13-thousand dollars for the Emmet county charges; no bond had been set on the Nebraska charge.
As part of their investigation, police executed a search warrant last Friday on a residence at 709 North Fifth Street in Estherville that turned up checks along with what’s alleged to be illegal drugs and paraphernalia. 50-year-old Kelly Haar was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released after posting bond.
Authorities say additional charges are possible as the case remains under investigation.
