Osceola County Collision Results In Possible Injuries; Fog Cited As Factor

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– Osceola county authorities say fog may have been a factor in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday on a county road near Melvin.

Authorities say 18-year-old Mark Nellis of Melvin was driving a 2005 Dodge eastbound when he collided with a 2001 Pontiac driven by 40-year-old Jamey Petersen of Melvin which was stopped on the traveled portion of the road as it was being pulled from a ditch.

Parties in the towing vehicle say they couldn’t see Nellis’ vehicle approaching, and Nellis said he couldn’t see Petersen’s vehicle due to the fog.

Petersen sustained possible injuries but wasn’t treated on the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

About 12-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to Nellis’ vehicle; 15-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Petersen and owned by Lyn Sorenson.

The mishap took place shortly after 7:00 a.m.
