(Ruthven)– A car/semi collision Monday on the southeast edge of Ruthven sent two people to the hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says Tawny Smith of Ruthven was driving a 2003 Pontiac eastbound on Highway 18 and lost control, colliding with a westbound 2001 Freightliner semi driven by Eric Molison of Emmetsburg.
The Pontiac came to rest in the south ditch; the semi jackknifed and came to rest on the north shoulder of the highway with the trailer blocking the road.
Molison and Smith were transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital by the Ruthven and Emmetsburg ambulances. Both were treated and released.
The car and semi were totalled.
The Palo Alto county ambulances, Ruthven and Emmetsburg crews, Ruthven Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Palo Alto County Emergency Management and the Department of Natural Resources assisted on the scene.
