Clay Co. Attny: No Federal Charges Will Be Filed Against Mailbox Bombing Suspects

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Clay county officials say six teens accused of destroying mailboxes with homemade bombs may only face juvenile charges.

Clay County Attorney Michael Houchins says he will recommend the teens agree to a waiver stipulation. That would keep their cases in juvenile court if they perform community service and complete other programs.

Six of the suspects are 15- and 17-year-old boys.

A seventh suspect, 18-year-old Tyler Enderson, will be charged with third-degree criminal mischief.

None will face federal charges.

The teens were arrested earlier this month for allegedly destroying 17 mailboxes with homemade bombs, baseball bats and a golf club. Authorities checked more than 1,000 mailboxes after discovering the bombs.
