(Spirit Lake)– A program that offers financial incentives for building owners in the Olde Towne, or downtown area, to make improvements to the facades of their buildings has some new life.
The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday voted unanimously to extend the program until December 31st, 2011.
City Administrator Mark Stevens says interest in the program has been lagging. He says only one application is currently being processed. Stevens told the council he feels the economy is to blame, saying it’s making it difficult for owners to come up with the 60 percent share of the funding they’re responsible for under the program.
The resolution extending the program also contains a modification that requires a public hearing and city council action to approve projects prior to the award of any grant funds.
