(Emmetsburg)– A ribbon cutting ceremony was held over the weekend for the new Regional Emergency Response Training Center at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
The facility was built as the result of two state grants awarded to the college in 2006 and 2007.
It will be used by area firefighters and paramedics as a training facility which simulates the risks emergency personnel face in a fire.
It is one of 11 such centers in the state.
Construction on the facility began last summer and included an upgrade to the building that extends the life of the facility.
Saturday’s ribbon cutting was held in conjunction with the 16th annual Iowa Lakes Regional Fire School and EMS Conference held at the Emmetsburg campus. Some 200 fire and EMT personnel attended two days of training Saturday and Sunday to qualify for continuing education credits.
