(Spirit Lake)– With one abstention, the Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday voted to amend a tax increment finance district already in place in the East Okoboji Beach subdivision.
The TIF was originally established to help finance a sanitary sewer project in the subdivision. It was about to expire.
The newly extended and amended TIF will allow for some street and drainage improvements in the East Okoboji Beach area.
Storm Lake Mayor John Kruse, who owns property in the subdivision, urged the supervisors to amend the TIF district, saying the drainage and road projects are vital to keeping silt and other debris from washing into East Lake Okoboji. He said the East Okoboji Beach Association had no other way to fund such a project.
Under the proposal, roads in the subdivision will be transferred to the county once the improvements are complete.
Supervisors Marti Allen, Pam Jordan, Wayne Northey and David Gottsche voted in favor of the proposal while Paul Johnson abstained.
