Two Teens Charged In Mailbox Explosion

(Spirit Lake)—Two Spirit Lake teens have been charged in connection with a mailbox explosion late last month in the East Okoboji Beach area.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says Jack Johnson and Trevor Hartwig…both 16…were charged with possession of explosive or incendiary materials or devices…a class “C” felony.

The two were released to the custody of their parents.

The incident took place March 28 on Walleye Drive where a mailbox was destroyed by an explosive device.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the U-S Postal Inspector.
