Arnolds Park/Okoboji Divers Recover Stolen Guns

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Divers with the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department Dive Team Sunday recovered several firearms from a pond at Stolley’s Gravel Pit near Spencer.

The dive team was requested by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in connection with what Sheriff Randy Krukow says is an ongoing criminal investigation into several area burglaries.

Divers arrived on the scene around 8:45 a.m. Two divers were deployed at 9:15 a.m. At 9:22 a.m. they located a shotgun; a minute later they located a rifle and an ammo box.

Two new divers were then deployed to relieve the first two. They came up with the third and final shotgun about 10 minutes after they were deployed.

The firearms were found in about 25 feet of water.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Dive Team was on the scene about an hour.

Krukow says the weapons are evidence in a multi-state burglary investigation in atleast Iowa and Minnesota.

Eight rural Clay county homes were hit. Besides weapons, thieves also took cash, jewelry, stereo equipment and computers.
