(Washington, D.C.)– A major announcement from U-S Senator Tom Harkin Thursday regarding federal funding for a Highway 71 bypass on the west edge of Spencer.
Harkin announced five million dollars is being made available for the project through the Highway Technical Corrections Bill, which shifts funding from projects authorized in the 2005 Highway Reauthorization Bill that are no longer viable projects to those that are ready for action.
The measure also modifies language to allow the projects to move forward. Harkin says funding for the Spencer bypass was previously held up over a need to modify the route name.
The Spencer project is one of seven to receive federal funding through the bill.
