Storm Damages Building, Injures Man

November 22, 2014

(Rossie)– A Rossie man was injured Tuesday when he was struck by debris from a building being damaged by a severe thunderstorm.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly after 5:00 p.m.

Authorities say 31-year-old Flint Dandy of Rossie had just gotten off work at the Rossie Feed and Grain Company and was walking past an old storage building on Main Street when he apparently was struck by some of the debris.

Dandy was treated on the scene and was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. He was then transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital. There was no information on his condition.

Authorities say the building is owned by Ronnie Joenks of Rossie.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Royal Fire and Rescue and the Webb and Peterson Fire Departments.

Severe thunderstorms affected much of the region late Tuesday afternoon bringing strong wind and hail. In Estherville, the ground was completely covered with penny-size hail shortly before 5:00 p.m.
