(Spirit Lake)– A ground wire that broke lose and shorted out a phase line on part of Alliant Energy’s local transmission system plunged a large part of the lakes area into darkness late this (Wed.) morning and early this (Wed.) afternoon.
Nancy Craig of Alliant Energy says the outage affected nearly 3,600 of their customers in the Spirit Lake and Okoboji areas.
Some Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative customers were also affected, as ILEC substations in Diamond Lake and the Lakes Business Park were also knocked out.
The outage occurred around 11:30 a.m. Power was restored about 45 minutes later.
