NW Aging Association Commemorates Older Americans Month

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The month of May has been designated Older Americans Month. And a local organization that specializes in servicing that population is using the occasion to remind the public of its services.

Cynthia Beauman, Executive Director of the Northwest Aging Association in Spencer, says not only are they seeing an increase in demand for services from those 65 and over, but she says they’re also getting more and more inquiries from those nearing retirement age. She says many don’t realize the amount of paperwork that needs to be filled out for pre-retirement planning and when to sign up for various programs and services.

In conjunction with Older Americans Month, Beauman says anyone who brings a guest with them to Dinnerdate will receive a free meal that day. She says it’s intended to spread the word about the role Dinnerdate plays by offering older persons a nutritious meal and an opportunity to socialize. Beauman says the Dinnerdate promotion is going on throughout the month of May.
