Cemetery Plowed Under

November 22, 2014

(Ceylon, Mn.)– The Sheriff’s Office in Martin county, Minnesota is investigating whether a farmer removed headstones and plowed over a cemetery.

Most of the headstones and graves in the 19th century cemetery were moved many years ago when the former German Evangelical Church relocated. But Bill Hoffmeyer, whose grandparents helped found the church in 1895, says three or four graves remained in the area south of Wilbert.

He says the area was tilled and planted last week.

Family members of ancestors buried in the cemetery contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
