(Spirit Lake)– Citing huge increases in food and commodity prices, the Spirit Lake school board Monday approved increases to hot lunch prices for the upcoming school year.
For Kindergarten-4th grade, the cost of 20-day meal ticket will go from 35 dollars currently to 40; a five-day ticket will go from $8.75 to $10.00; and a 1-day ticket will increase from $1.75 to $2.00.
For 5th-12th grade, 20-day tickets will increase from $40.00 to $46.00; 5-day tickets will go from $10.00 currently to $11.50 and one day tickets will increase from $2.00 currently to $2.30.
For adults, the cost of a 20-day ticket will jump from $50 to $56; a 5-day ticket will go from $12.50 to $14.00; and a 1-day ticket will increase from $2.50 to $2.80.
Breakfast will go up a quarter with the cost of extra milk for a 20-day ticket increasing by two dollars.
School board members say they’ll review the prices at the end of the first semester and that they may be forced to make even more increases then, based on current projections for huge increases in food prices in coming months.
