(Germantown)– A rural Paullina man was seriously injured Tuesday in a chainsaw accident in Germantown.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Michael Celus had been cutting up a tree with a chainsaw when he apparently slipped and fell on the running saw, partially severing his left arm.
Celus tried to call for help on a cell phone but was unsuccessful. He then walked to a nearby bar where patrons called 911 and bystanders applied a tourniquet and makeshift dressings to his arm.
Celus was transported by ambulance to the Primghar hospital and was later life-flighted to a Sioux City hospital. There was no word on his condition.
The incident took place shortly before 7:30 p.m.
