ILCC Sustainable Energy Program Lands Another Federal Grant

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)—The Sustainable Energy program at Iowa Lakes Community College has been awarded additional federal funding.

U-S Congressman Tom Latham and Senator Tom Harkin announced today (Monday) the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a 238,775-dollar grant to help support the program.

The money will be used to purchase equipment and educational materials.

It will also allow faculty to collaborate with industry representatives to develop integrated, hands-on curriculum. Enhanced laboratory components will be developed this summer and piloted in the upcoming fall.

The curriculum will be shared with other institutions of higher learning upon request.

Last week it was announced ILCC’s Sustainable Energy program was awarded 500-thousand dollars through an Energy and Water Appropriations Bill approved by the full House Appropriations Committee.
That funding will be used on a lab that teaches how to repair wind turbine blades and for the college’s green building technologies program.
