(Rapid City, S.D.)– Black Hills Corporation of Rapid City, South Dakota and Great Plains Energy, Incorporated of Kansas City say they’ll formally close their purchase and merger of Aquila today (Monday, 7/14).
In a joint news release, the companies say Black Hills will acquire Aquila’s natural gas and electric utilities in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. Great Plains will take over Acquila’s Missouri electric utilities, stock and other corporate assets.
Great Plains is the holding company for Kansas City Power and Light, a leading regulated provider of electricity in the midwest.
Black Hills is a diversified energy company with utility businesses that serve parts of South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana.
Aquila provides natural gas service to a large part of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota, including the Iowa Great Lakes.
