SL Woman Elected Delegate To Republican National Convention

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A very special honor for a long-time local Republican.

Vergene Donovan of Spirit Lake was elected this past Saturday as a delegate to the Republican National Convention coming up in September in Minneapolis.

Donovan tells KUOO news she’s very excited and honored. She says it’s the result of a resolution introduced at the county convention stating they would nominate and support Donovan as national convention delegate. From there, she won the support of the fifth district committee man, Bill Anderson, who nominated Donovan. She then sought and garnered support from fellow republicans, including U-S Senator Chuck Grassley.

Vergene is one of only three people from the 32 counties of western Iowa’s fifth congressional district that were elected as delegates to the national convention.

Donovan was also elected to what’s known as the Permanent Organization Committee, which handles organizational details for the Republican National Convention.

Donovan says even though the main point of business of officially naming the Republican nomination for President is already a done deal, that she looks forward to seeing who John McCain selects as a Vice Presidential running mate. She feels John Thune of South Dakota would be a good fit.
