Palo Alto Co. Rollover Results In Multiple Injuries

(Emmetsburg)—A single-vehicle mishap Monday near the intersection of 422nd Avenue and 420th Street in Palo Alto county resulted in multiple injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Edgardo Portillo of Sioux City lost control of a van that left the road, went into the north ditch and rolled onto its side.

There were six passengers in the van. They were identified as 35-year-old Nez Bars, 25-year-old Olvdo Pena; 29-year-old Edvin Rodriguez, 21-year-old Jarly Wilfredo, 20-year-old Gerson Antonio Fuentez and 28-year-old Jorge Cruz Hernandez…all of Sioux City. Another occupant was identified as Tovar Najera…also of Sioux City. Cruz, Rodriguez and Najera were taken by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital. Cruz was life lighted to a Sioux City hospital with back and shoulder injuries. The others were taken by private vehicle to the hospital and were treated for minor cuts and bruises and released.

Portillo was cited for no Iowa driver’s license and failure to maintain control.

The 1999 Chevrolet van Portillo was driving was totaled.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Palo Alto County Secondary Roads Department, Emmetsburg Fire Department, Ayrshire First Responders and the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service.
