(Spirit Lake)– A phenomena known as “cold air funnels” made some people nervous late this (Sat.) afternoon and early this evening in the lakes area.
KUOO, Dickinson County Emergency Management and law enforcement agencies received numerous reports of funnel clouds from throughout the lakes area from shortly after 4:00 p.m. until about 6:00 p.m.
Some reports had funnels reaching about half way to the ground, before going back up into the clouds and dissipating.
No watches or warnings were issued for the area.
The National Weather Service says the cold air funnels were associated with weak thunderstorms along a weak cold front trying to push its way through the area.
There were no confirmed reports of any damage or touchdowns.
