Violent Storm Causes Extensive Damage In Lake Park

November 22, 2014

(Lake Park)– They’re assessing the damage and cleaning up today (Thurs.) in the Lake Park area after getting battered by large hail and high wind late Wednesday afternoon.

Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says there was extensive tree damage throughout town, along with some homes that were damaged. He says there were several reports of windows being broken out, along with damage to siding.

Ehret says part of a hog barn northeast of Lake Park was damaged as well. He says he isn’t sure if it was due to a tornado or straight line winds. Ehret says photos of the damage will be sent today (Thurs.) to the National Weather Service, which will make that determination.

A tornado warning was in effect for Dickinson county and central Jackson county in southwest Minnesota between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Doppler radar indicated some circulation in the storm, and stryations could also be seen in the clouds as they moved over Spirit Lake.

There were also reports of extensive crop damage in western Dickinson county, where corn and soybeans were stripped.

Fortunately, Ehret says no one was hurt.
