(Spencer)– The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of its K9, Bailey.
Sergeant Brad Hawley, Bailey’s handler, says the yellow labrador retriever was euthanized August 8th following a lengthy illness. He was 14.
Bailey served the Clay County Sheriff’s Office beginning in 1996.
During his service, Bailey amassed narcotics finds totaling in excess of 15 pounds of methamphetamine; 20 pounds of marijuana; eight pounds of cocaine and was responsible for the forefeiture of more than 100-thousand dollars in cash and property.
Bailey made numerous appearances in schools, churches and civic meetings.
Officials say it was Bailey’s success that paved the way for Clay county’s current K9, Max.
