(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday gave the go-ahead for a project to build a rain garden in Memorial Park.
Under the proposal, the East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation, the Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Blue Water Garden Club will contribute 4,250-dollars toward the project.
The city will provide some of the manpower and equipment for the work.
Jane Lieb, President of the Blue Water Garden Club, told the council the project has been on the drawing board several months. She says they feel Memorial Park is an excellent location for the project, as there’s been a problem in that area with silt running into the lake in the past.
Plans call for most of the dirt work to be done yet this fall, with planting in the spring.
