Incident Results In Charges Against Spencer Man

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Spencer man faces several charges in connection with an incident early Thursday in downtown Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it all started when a deputy saw a vehicle traveling west in the 100 block of West Ninth Street and then noticed the vehicle had parked and that the driver had gotten out and crossed the street.

As the deputy drove by, he identified the man as 43-year-old Sammie Minniefield of Spencer. The deputy knew through prior knowledge Minniefield had a barred driver’s license.

Upon making contact with Minniefield the deputy determined Minniefield had been drinking and conducted field sobriety tests.

Minniefield then was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated…second offense…and was booked into the Clay county jail.

A subsequent search of the vehicle by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit turned up what’s alleged to be a small amount of marijuana and an open container of alcohol.

Additional charges of driving while barred, possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and open container were then filed against Minniefield.
