(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man faces multiple charges following an incident Saturday night in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake police say they received a report around 9:00 p.m. of a man that had broken into a residence in the 1800 block of Gary Avenue and assaulted a female.
Upon arriving officers met with the female and were informed the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jason Watson of Spirit Lake, had fled on foot.
The victim told police she ran away from the suspect after he forced entry into her residence and ran to a neighbor’s house in the 700 block of 19th Street. The suspect forcibly entered that residence, injuring some people who live there. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.
After several hours of searching, the suspect finally notified authorities of his location, and Watson was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with burglary in the first degree…a class “B” felony; burglary in the second degree…a class “C” felony; threats of explosive or incendiary device materials…a class “D” felony; criminal mischief in the third degree…an aggravated misdemeanor; criminal mischief in the fourth degree…a serious misdemeanor; and public intoxication, third offense…an aggravated misdemeanor.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Lake Park, Okoboji and Arnolds Park Police Departments, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources officers and the Iowa State Patrol.
