(Emmetsburg)– A single-vehicle crash this (Wednesday) morning a mile north of Emmetsburg on a county road seriously injured a Swea City man.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Adam Gibson was southbound and was attempting to pass another southbound vehicle. Deputies say Gibson lost control as he attempted to get back into his lane.
The vehicle he was driving veered sideways and went into the west ditch where it crossed a farm drive and collided with a utility pole, coming to rest.
Gibson was ejected from the vehicle.
Authorities say he sustained major injuries and was life-flighted to a Mason City hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by several passersby, the Emmetsburg Police Department, Emmetsburg Fire Department and the Palo Alto County Ambulance.
Some nearby residents lost power as a result of wires that were knocked down in the crash.
A 2007 Chevrolet Gibson was driving was totaled.
The crash took place shortly before 6:30 a.m.
