Crash Sends Woman To LRH, Then To Jail

November 22, 2014

(West Okoboji)– A single-vehicle crash shortly after 5:00 p.m. Sunday sent a Wahpeton woman not only to the hospital, but to jail as well.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says Jan Despain of Wahpeton was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty southbound on Highway 86 near Garlock Slough when she lost control on a curve. The vehicle went into the south ditch and rolled.

Despain was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-incapacitating injuries.

A dog was thrown from the vehicle but didn’t appear to be injured.

Upon being released from the hospital, Despain was arrested for operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control. She was booked into the Dickinson county jail.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at five thousand dollars.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Milford Fire and Rescue, the Milford and Arnolds Park Police Departments, and Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance.
