Dickinson Named First County Of Character

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)—It’s official: Dickinson county is Iowa’s first “County of Character”.
An award making that designation was officially presented Saturday in Des Moines to Kim Wermersen, Carole Caviness, Nancy Schmitz and Jan Bowles, board members of Dickinson County Character Counts.

15 Iowa individuals and organizations were recognized.

Featured speakers included former Governor Robert Ray, Chairman of Character Counts in Iowa, as well as Olivia Myers, the reigning Miss Iowa 2008, who uses Character Counts as her platform.

The ceremony was held to mark the conclusion of Character Counts Week, observed last week.

On another Character Counts development, the Dickinson County Character Counts program is starting a new program to provide knitted scarves to those in need. You can get involved by knitting or crocheting or by helping financially to purchase supplies. Those wishing to help should contact Sue Richter at 338-2254; Teresa Pearson at 332-9297 or Carolyn Vincelli at 336-5168.
