(Spencer)– Thanks in part to donations from sheriffs in Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Palo Alto and Kossuth counties, the Iowa Great Lakes Area chapter of the American Red Cross now has a truck available to respond to disasters and emergencies.
Mike Harleman of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chapter of the American Red Cross says they’re very grateful to the sheriffs and everyone else that’s contribute money and equipment to outfit the truck. He says they continue to accept financial donations, and are looking for a topper for the truck. Anyone interested in donating should call (712) 262-1574 or 888-292-1574. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 407, Spencer, Iowa…51301.
The local Red Cross chapter is also embarking on a major fundraising effort for its disaster relief fund. Harleman says the goal is to raise 30-thousand dollars by the end of the year.
To help out, he says they’ll be holding a garage sale at the Spencer office, located on the southeast side of the Gateway North Mall. The sale will be held Saturday, November 8th from 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Anyone wishing to contribute items for the sale may drop them off the week of November 3rd between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The chapter reserves the right to reject any item(s). They don’t want junk.
