(Ames)– A local Iowa State University Extension employee recently received some special recognition.
Karen Byers, ISU Extension Youth Development Specialist, was awarded the Iowa State University Extension Achievement by an Individual Award at the 2008 Extension Awards Convocation in Ames October 23rd.
Byers received the award for her contributions and dedication to the mission of ISU extension.
Byers was recognized for transforming a 13-year-old old program into an “Ag-Citing” Experience at the Clay County Fair for a thousand students.
Her marketing background helped create a new vision, mission and campaign to secure 35-thousand dollars. The make-over produced new interactive station including DNA extraction from bananas, retinal imaging of livestock and identification of grains and value-added products produced in Iowa.
New classroom activities, a web link and newsletters were also utilized in the make-over of the “Ag-Cite” program.
